My!beloved!Daddy!died!very!suddenly!in!1980!at!age!51.!!My! grief!was!a!hidden!wound,!buried!deep!and!nacred!over,!as!an! oyster!makes!a!pearl,!through!year!upon!year!of!motherhood! and!life!in!general.!

I!relied!on!my!intuition!to!guide!the!color!selections!from!the! contents!of!my!scrap!basket,!dumped!out!on!the!floor!of!the! studio.!The!kolam!design!was!a!decoration!on!my!journal!page! while!writing!about!Daddy.!My!hands!remembered!doing!the! chain!stitch!from!my!childhood.!!All!but!one!of!the!points!in!the! design!are!Job’s!Tears,!a!seed!that!grows!with!a!hole!along!the! axis!so!it’s!a!natural!bead.!!A!pearl!is!the!final!point!a!a!beautiful! source!of!compassion,!built!around!my!ongoing!love.+
